OUTRÉ— (adj.) as in eccentric; different from the ordinary in a way that causes curiosity or suspicion; violating convention or propriety; bizarre. “Seeing that there is a cast member credited as Pancake the Penguin in a production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee sets outré vibes into the air before the guest spellers are even called to the stage.” O-U-T-R-É. And while it won’t be the most unusual thing I’ve seen when it comes to live theatre— it takes more than an alliterative mascot to make even the top ten on that list— it certainly does pique my interest.
